October 5th, 2023- The European Union (EU) Head of Cooperation for Sri Lanka and Maldives, J H Hesse, along with the GIZ team, visited Vavuniya, Periyapuliyalankulam village in Vegalachettikullam DSD to attend an event organized by Family Rehabilitation, aimed at forming a Grass Root Action Committee in the area.

The primary objective of the visit was to engage with the community and gain a deeper understanding of their challenges related to jobs, education, and social welfare. This initiative is fully supported by the EU and GIZ, who are committed to promoting inclusive growth and improving the lives of individuals and communities in Sri Lanka.

During the event, the community had the opportunity to voice their concerns and discuss potential solutions with the EU representative, the GIZ team, and the Family Rehabilitation Centre’s team. The formation of the Grass Root Action Committee is considered a crucial step towards empowering the community to address their challenges and work towards sustainable development.

Mr. Hesse commended the community for their active participation and the Family Rehabilitation Centre in facilitating dialogue between the community and the EU, which will ultimately lead to positive change and progress in the region.

The EU and GIZ remain committed to promoting social and economic development in Sri Lanka and will continue to work closely with communities to achieve this goal.
